What
are the different types of RVs?
RVs are either motorized (motorhomes) or
towable units (folding camping trailers,
travel trailers). RVs
comprise a whole family of vehicles that
combine transportation and temporary living
quarters for recreation, camping and travel.
Some provide a simple place for sleeping and
eating, while others are virtually luxury
lodges on wheels.
Conveniences
range from the basics -- like running water,
cooking and bathroom facilities, and a power
source (either electricity or liquid propane)
-- to added comforts such as air conditioning,
entertainment systems and slideout rooms.

How
much does an RV cost?
Prices vary depending on size, features,
sleeping capacity and type. For the most
part, it really depends on what your needs and
wants are.
But
generally speaking starting prices can be as
little as $3,100 for folding camping trailers,
$9,500 for travel trailers and $33,000 for
motorhomes. Depending on size and options,
conventional travel trailers can cost up to
$63,000 and high-end motorhomes can exceed
$100,000.

What
type of financing can I get for a new RV?
Loans for new, large RVs typically range from
10 to 12 years, with many even extending 15
years. The majority of lenders require less
than a 20 percent down payment, and many
lenders require a down payment of under 10%.

Are
RV loans tax-deductible?
For the vast majority of RV buyers, the
interest on their loan is deductible as second
home mortgage interest. To qualify, the RV
must be used as security for the loan and must
have basic sleeping, toilet and cooking
accommodations. Virtually all RV types --
motorhomes, van campers, travel trailers, and
even some folding camping trailers - are
equipped with these facilities.

Do
I need a special license to drive a motorhome?
Driving the
vast majority of RVs requires no special
license and is easier than many newcomers
think. In some states, the very largest
motorhomes may require a special driving test
or written test for a different class of
drivers license. Regardless of size, personal
use recreation vehicles do not require a
commercial drivers license.
Experienced
automobile drivers already have the skills to
drive a motorized RV. With proper attention to
the size, height and weight differences,
experienced drivers find it fun to take the
wheel.

Do
I need a special license to tow an RV?
The vast
majority of RVs require no special license to
tow an RV. In some states, the very largest
towable RVs may require a special driving test
or written test for a different class of
drivers license. Regardless of size, a
commercial drivers license is not required for
towing a personal use RV.
Towing
skills are readily acquired. With a little
practice, experienced drivers find it easy to
learn to tow their RV.

Where
can I go in an RV?
With more
than 16,000 public and privately-owned
campgrounds nationwide, RVers are free to roam
America's highways and backroads for a weekend
or weeks on end:
Privately
owned RV parks and campgrounds are found
near popular destinations, along major
tourist routes and even in city
environments. These campgrounds appeal to
traveling families by offering a variety of
activities to keep children busy. Swimming
pools, game rooms, playgrounds and snack
bars are practically standard.
RV
travelers seeking a resort atmosphere with
facilities such as tennis courts, golf
courses and health spas flock to the new
breed of luxury RV resorts.
Facilities
at public campgrounds tend to be simple, but
offer great scenic beauty. Public lands are
popular for hiking, fishing, white water
rafting and many other outdoor recreational
opportunities.

Will the
kids like RVing?
RVing and
kids go hand in hand. An RV trip is the ideal
mode of vacation travel with children. RVs
keep kids happy while on the road with
entertainment options like VCRs for watching
videos, audio headphones for listening to
tapes, kitchens to prepare favorite meals and
snacks, plenty of elbow room and nap space and
bathrooms for those frequent "potty
breaks." There is no adventure like an
RV adventure... kids love it!

Will I
use my RV enough?
With all the
comforts of home on board and ample storage
space, these versatile vehicles are the
perfect complement to just about any sport,
hobby or activity you already enjoy.
Hunting
and Fishing
Whether
you're going after "Old
Granddaddy" at a secret fishing hole
or stalking big game in the mountains, an
RV is a great base camp. After a long day
in the field, a nourishing meal, hot
shower and restful sleep in a comfortable
bed is just what's needed before the fun
begins the next day.
Boating
For
those that enjoy the water, an RV is a
great tow vehicle for their boat of
choice. And, once at the lake, river or
ocean, it becomes a comfortable,
convenient shorefront home.
Cycling
Bicycles
and motorbikes can be towed in their own
trailers or mounted on the nose or tail of
the RV to be readily accessible for local
touring.
Shopping Excursions
Whether
it's browsing flea markets, finding the
best bargains at outlet malls or searching
for the perfect antique, an RV is the
ultimate "shopping cart" with
plenty of room to store your purchases. Be
sure that these purchases are properly
secured before taking to the road!
NASCAR Events
RVs and
NASCAR go hand in hand. From infield
parking to special camping areas
convenient to track, race promoters make
RVers feel welcome! Watch the race from a
lounge chair on the roof, with a
television on hand for instant replays and
a refrigerator close-by for instant
refreshments. Then enjoy socializing with
other fans who make the circuit via RV.
Tailgating
An RV is
the ticket to enjoying the big game. Why
fight crowded highways leading to the
stadium? Arrive early and stay late,
tailgating with friends, your favorite
recipes, all the comforts of home and a
television to catch the pre- and post-game
shows.
Winter
Sports
Cold
weather doesn't have to mean the end of RV
fun. From skiing to snowmobiling, RVers
can enjoy their favorite activity and
return to the comfort and warmth of
today's heated,
thermostatically-controlled vehicles.
There's plenty of storage for skis, boots,
poles and bulky clothing.
Whatever the activity or focus of the trip,
the RV family doesn’t have to worry about
housing or meals. Home is where they park
it.

club like the Music City E-Z Campers! Some clubs are primarily social, giving
you a chance to travel with people who have
the same brand RV as yours or with like-minded
friends who share your interests. Others offer
technical support; still others offer discount
magazines and services. Join one or half a
dozen. You can't go wrong.
